Playroom Essentials: Sarah’s Silks

This blog post is a gifted partnership. Sarah’s Silks was kind enough to send me a few silks to feature!

One of my best friends, Jamie, has all the fun (and developmentally appropriate/educational/creative) play ideas for her daughters. So when she suggested Sarah’s Silks (10% off at this link!) for our kids’ playroom, I trusted her wholeheartedly. I knew we had to have some—yes, more than one! They’re just too fun.

What are Sarah’s Silks?

Sarah’s Silks are beautiful, high-quality silk scarves that encourage open-ended play for kids.

Open-ended play encourages kids to be creative with their toys without instruction or direction. Basically, it teaches kids how to be more creative, independent, and resourceful. Because the silks don’t have just one use (like many battery-operated toys would), there are hundreds of ways to use them, which means they’ll be well-loved for years and years.

We were gifted the Pastel Play Set and a Mini Rainbow Silk and Carson, who is just about 15 months old, goes crazy for them! But they don’t just have silks. They also have costumes, toys, patterned silks, play forts, and so much more.

How to Play with Sarah’s Silks

My daughter is still young, so her independent, creative play with Sarah’s Silks is fairly limited to draping them over her head like a ghost or dancing with them. However, to encourage more open play, I set up a few play environments incorporating the silks in different ways.

First, I set up a golf tee. Using the green scarf, I setup a designated 18th hole with her mini golf set. This would be so fun with different shades of green and multiple golf sets!

Next, we used a mini scarf to make rainbow soup in her kitchen pots and pans. She’s pretty into her food toys recently, so this was a fun way to help her mind think about different items the scarves can fit into!

I’m so looking forward to the days she can create new ways to play with them herself! We’re ready for dress-up, forts, scarf slings, and all the fun that comes with Sarah’s Silks. If you want to try out Sarah’s Silks in your playroom, I recommend a Playsilk Set so you can get multiple colors together! They also make amazing gifts and you can order a monthly subscription, too!
